The Global Statelessness Fund launched on 16 January 2025 with multi-year, unrestricted grants. Shafi Musaddique’s article in Alliance magazine highlights key moments from the online launch event and emphasizes the timeliness of a fund co-created by stateless people.
Martin O’Brien, a member of the Fund’s management committee, told Alliance that statelessness ‘has been an overlooked and underfunded issue’, with support rarely reached to groups ‘led by stateless people themselves.’
‘Remedying that problem is a key goal for the fund and is strongly reflected in its grants and overall design,’ he said.
O’Brien hopes the fund exceeds its initial $6 million target and said the stateless fund was open to ‘other potential sources of support.’
