Being stateless means that no country considers you as their citizen.
Statelessness is an extreme form of exclusion and a growing global problem. It is caused by one or multiple forms of discrimination and leads to a wide range of human rights violations. Stateless people struggle to access their fundamental rights to education, healthcare, housing, employment, social protection, family life, documentation, free movement, political participation, and access to justice.
Today, more than 15 million people worldwide are stateless and tens of millions are at risk of statelessness because of discriminatory nationality and citizenship laws.
Powered by those with lived experience of statelessness and discriminatory nationality laws, the Global Statelessness Fund is working towards change.

The Global Statelessness Fund is more than a traditional donor collaborative. It is a pooled fund born from collaboration between donors, stateless changemakers and other civil society leaders and experts who have come together to build the best possible model.
We embrace the complex reality of statelessness as an intersectional issue and support grantees working in any geographic region or issue area in the field of statelessness and nationality rights, including those in difficult or hard-to-reach contexts.
We offer flexible, multi-year funding because trust-based philanthropy shifts power and is proven to be more strategic, rewarding, and impactful.
We adopt participatory grant-making methods that place decision-making power in the hands of those affected by the issue as part of our commitment to enhancing equity and agency.
We recognise that financial resourcing is not the only catalyst of impact and support grantees to achieve the change they seek through capacity strengthening, peer learning, and opportunities for joined-up action.
We are committed to the principles of the #Fixtheform movement and keep application and reporting processes simple, people-centred, effective, and informative.
