Grantmaking Updates

We are proud to announce that between March and October 2025, the Global Statelessness Fund has concluded its second round of grantmaking, selecting 31 new initiatives for multi-year, unrestricted grants, bringing our grantee partner community to 56 organizations and activists across 29 countries. In total, the Fund has now committed 3.35 million USD over three years!

Our grantee partners are working to realize equal nationality rights for all through legal support, strategic litigation, essential services for affected communities, education and awareness raising, and campaigning and advocacy. We also recognize the intersectional nature of statelessness and seek to support individuals and groups with different yet interrelated goals, including ending gender discrimination in nationality laws, realizing every child’s right to an identity, and eradicating statelessness among refugee, migrant, and minority communities.

It is impactful that the Global Statelessness Fund provides unrestricted funding. With it we can support the community according to their needs. We have confidence in the work and its impact, and the community grows more confident in demanding their rights.

Through our participatory nomination and peer review process, we have been able to reach groups that are often overlooked in traditional philanthropy. Together with our partner Open Collective Europe Foundation, we work to safely channel resources to selected initiatives and we do not impose restrictions on location, registration status, and organizational banking access.

Our participatory grantmaking approach extended beyond just the decision-making. We developed our process and criteria in consultation with our grantee partners from the first group, gathered nominations from the statelessness and equal nationality rights field, and further engaged grantees as peer reviewers. This ensured that those impacted by statelessness and denial of equal nationality rights shaped who we fund and how we do it.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to learn from so many inspiring groups.”

Through flexible funding and a learning-oriented reporting approach, grantee partners are able to build long-term programs, respond to emerging needs, pursue innovative solutions, and participate in regional and global advocacy spaces.

We will continue supporting our grantee partners through funding, accompaniment support, and peer learning, and to continue to learn from their work.
