“Apatride Network is run by stateless people for stateless people, giving voice of our views, expertise, and dreams of equal human rights in the European Union.”
Apatride Network is a EU-based stateless-led organisation that runs projects to raise awareness of the issue of statelessness in the EU, to clear misconceptions about the topic, to build supportive and collaborative networks, to bridge legal assistance, and to find practical solutions to statelessness within the EU and globally.

Their awareness-raising efforts include delivering lectures at universities, UN agencies, NGOs, state actors, and other relevant parties. Additionally, Apatride Network organizes events and conferences centering on statelessness, publishes academic and media articles, and provides training for legal professionals. In March 2025, in Budapest, Apatride Network will host the second edition of SAF(E), Europe’s first stateless-led forum dedicated to systemically raising awareness on statelessness.
Apatride Network connects stateless individuals with legal assistance providers in the EU, helping legal professionals gain better insight into cases relevant to statelessness. Partnering with international law firms and UNHCR, they also work with banks and other financial institutions within the EU to ensure the financial inclusion of stateless and forcibly displaced individuals.
Apatride Network also took part in the pilot phases of the Global Statelessness Fund, providing crucial insights and support in developing procedures and policies, refining the user experience, and resolving glitches.

Some of their notable achievements and involvements in 2024 are as follows:
- After years of lobbying, Apatride Network made a breakthrough in having UNHCR clear up barriers to stateless people applying for UNHCR jobs. They are currently working hard to have other UN agencies adapt a similar fix in their careers and HR systems. Stay tuned!
- They expanded their legal assistance work, helping connect stateless people to legal aid; had success in EU courts by equipping their NGO partners with relevant legal details and arguments in some cases; and further built-up their ongoing projects with international law firms thanks to PILnet.
- Apatride Network joined Global Alliance to End Statelessness as well as European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST), working toward the goal of enhancing regional and global collaboration in statelessness awareness raising, advocacy, publications, capacity building, and other such relevant work.
- They provided 25+ statelessness guest lectures (and counting) in different universities and organizations, while also being involved in international conferences in Malaysia, Belgium, Switzerland, and Germany.
- Together with their partners, they launched the Blockchain for Human Rights consortium, working to advocate for responsible use of blockchain solutions in digitization of identification. In the long-term, decentralization of identification is of strong interest to them for its potential in safeguarding individual and collective identity.
