Bina Ramanand is a dedicated advocate for gender justice in Malaysia. Motivated by her own challenges as a foreign spouse raising Malaysian children, Bina’s mission has centered on addressing the significant hurdles with regard to legal status and citizenship faced by Malaysian Binational families. She co-founded the Foreign Spouses Support Group (FSSG) in 2007 evolving into Family Frontiers.
Bina has been at the forefront of advocating for law and policy reforms, focusing on ensuring equality and non-discrimination for Malaysian women and their children in binational families, and played a pivotal role in reuniting families separated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bina is an active participant and speaker at national and international forums, she is a member of the UNHCR Global Alliance Task Force and serves on the steering committees of the Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights and the Asia Pacific Statelessness and Dignified Citizenship Coalition. In addition, she is a Board Member of the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law, and Development for Malaysia. She is also a member of various national coalitions addressing gender equality, law reform, and the rights of migrant women and stateless populations, Bina has dedicated over seventeen years of her life as a human rights activist.
